In 1938, Herty, born out of the need to eliminate southern dependence on imported fibers, established itself by using southern pinewood for the production of newsprint. In the 70 years since its founding, Herty Advanced Materials Development Center has continued to support innovation in fibers and expanded into new markets and industrial products.
