Government property that is no longer used is redistributed or sold.
Surplus government property is any federal or state property that is no longer needed. Surplus property is either redistributed to other government entities or sold to certain organizations and the public. Surplus property does not include real estate. All surplus sales are final.
Organizations must register with the Georgia Department of Administrative Services in order to receive surplus property. Eligible organizations, or donees, include state government agencies, municipal governments, non-profit organizations, and some small businesses working with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
If property is not redistributed or sold to a donee, it may be made available to the public via auction or retail sale. Most auctions and sales are conducted online, but the buyer must pick up the property in person.
